Pen Pal Programs

Do you enjoy writing and receiving letters? Would you like to get things like hand made gifts, snippets of poetry, and cute stickers & cards in the mail?

Over the past few years I've made a small network of pen pals and found a lot of connection and insight in writing & receiving letters. It's exciting to get an envelope or package full of thoughtful words & gifts! What I really appreciate is that my friends pick out or make gifts that they know I like or am interested in, whether it's telling me about a spinoff they're writing of a book we both like, or something Doctor Who related they saw at a shop and thought of me. It's heartwarming and it makes me even more intent on finding them awesome gifts.

I'll tell you, we are so lucky these days to have not only a community for every show/book/artist/movement with people in it making fan art & merch, but also a platform to share & buy that with just one click. If I've got a friend who's super into Harry Potter, I can find and order a Harry Potter themed leather journal in five minutes and send it to them with all sorts of Harry Potter stickers and pens.

If all of that sounds good to you, and you love writing letters, you can contact me at we.earthbound.stars@gmail.com or any of my social media handles to join in 😊

I'd like to also recommend some really awesome organizations that accept cards & letters for people in nursing homes, people suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts, and others in need of kind words & community. It doesn't take much time to write a simple greeting and a few words about yourself, and takes only one stamp. If you like to get more creative you could make your own cards and add drawings or photos you've taken of nature or cool buildings.

Letters Against Depression collects letters for people suffering from depression who sign up to either receive anonymous letters of support or for a pen pal. It's a wonderful cause and is an easy way to brighten someone's day. You don't have to get very creative but if you want, you can go all-out with stickers and colored pens. Love for the Elderly collects cards for those in nursing homes who appreciate kind words all year and especially on the holidays, as many nursing home residents aren't visited often or don't have family to write & visit them on holidays (just make sure to factor in shipping & processing time, cards may take a month or longer to get from your hand to the recipient). More Love Letters collects letters of love and support for people struggling with depression and loneliness, and also encourages leaving anonymous letters of encouragement and doing acts of kindness in your community. Click here for more info www.moreloveletters.com/get-involved
